When the Romanian e-vignette starts and expires

The validity rules are laid down by Law 226/2023 and Order MTI No. 888/2026. The e-vignette starts and ends at midnight; the only exception is an e-vignette starting on the day of purchase.

Start of validity

• A future day: the e-vignette is valid from 00:00 on the first day.
• Today: the e-vignette is valid from the moment the payment is registered, not from midnight. Buy it before entering the national roads.

The last day

The e-vignette expires at 24:00 on the last day:

• 10 days: the start day and the following 9 days;
• 30 days: the start day and the following 29 days;
• 60 days: the start day and the following 59 days;
• 12 months: until the day before the same date in the following year.

Example: a 30-day e-vignette starting on 10 November 2026 is valid until 9 December 2026, 24:00.

Buying in advance

The e-vignette can be bought at most 30 days before the start date. This way you can get the new one before the old one expires. On RovinietaPortal, for a Romanian number plate we show you the existing e-vignette, and the start date of the new one is at the earliest the day after expiry.

The current day, paid the next day

For vehicles registered in Romania, the law allows the e-vignette for the current day to be paid by 24:00 on the following day at the latest. The exception does not apply to vehicles registered in other countries.
