The Romanian e-vignette for a vehicle registered in another country

Last checked: 1 November 2026

The Romanian e-vignette is mandatory on the national roads of Romania for vehicles registered in other countries as well. The pricing rules are the same; only a few details differ.

The data you need

  • the number plate and the country of registration (the code on the plate, e.g. H, D, BG);
  • the vehicle type: passenger vehicle with at most 9 seats or goods vehicle of up to 3.5 t;
  • the Euro class, from the registration certificate;
  • the VIN (vehicle identification number), 17 characters, field E of the registration certificate.

For foreign number plates, these data cannot be filled in from the Romanian register: you enter them yourself. Where to find the Euro class in each country.

The number plate

Enter the number without spaces or hyphens, in Latin letters. Enter letters with diacritics without the accents (e.g. Ö as O). Select the country of the plate, not the country of destination.

No grace period

Paying the e-vignette for the current day by the following day is permitted only for vehicles registered in Romania. For a foreign number plate, buy the e-vignette before entering the national roads.

The fine is imposed on the spot

For vehicles registered abroad, the absence of an e-vignette is penalised on the spot, during a check, including at border crossing points. The fine is between two and four times the 12-month fee. Details on fines.

Trailers and caravans

A towed trailer or caravan does not need a separate e-vignette: the e-vignette of the towing vehicle is sufficient.
