On which roads you need a Romanian e-vignette
Last checked: 1 November 2026
The Romanian e-vignette gives the right to use the national road network of Romania, managed by CNAIR. It is neither a charge for motorways only nor one for all roads.
Where it is required
On national roads, including motorways and expressways, also where they cross towns and communes that do not have municipality (municipiu) status. The e-vignette covers both driving and stopping or parking on these roads.
Where it is not required
- On the sections of national road inside municipalities (municipii), between the entry and exit signs (Law 226/2023, Art. 5(1)).
- On county and communal roads and on local streets.
The exception applies to municipalities, not to every town or commune: where a national road crosses a locality that is not a municipality, the e-vignette is required there too.
Which vehicles pay
Passenger vehicles (cars, minibuses, buses, coaches) and goods vehicles with a maximum authorised total mass of up to 3.5 t. Heavier goods vehicles pay the distance-based toll (TollRo). Towed trailers and caravans do not need a separate e-vignette, and motorcycles do not fall into any of the e-vignette categories.
Bridges
For some bridges, for example Fetești–Cernavodă, a separate crossing toll is payable; the e-vignette does not include it.
